Curacao has a number of bridges, most named after members of the Dutch Royal Family. The harbor itself is crossed by two bridges, the floated Queen Emma and the towering Queen Juliana.

Queen Emma Bridge |
The Swinging Ol' Lady as this unique bridge is affectionately dubbed has been around since 1888. When a ship needs to enter the handshaped harbor through its narrow wrist, the bridge swings open sideways to let it through. The entire bridge is build on floating pontoons that give you the feeling of walking on water when you cross from Punda to Otrobanda. Is the bridge open, but you need to get to the other side? No worries, a free ferry boat will bring you right accross. |

Queen Juliana Bridge |
The Queen Julianabridge was build in the sixties to solve the continuous traffic jams in down-town Punda and Otrobanda. The floating Queen Emma could not handle the increase in traffic and to drive around the harbour would take about 45 minutes. The Queen Julianabridge towers 65 m / 180 feet high - high enough to let most ships in the world pass underneath. The view on down-town when driving over the bridge is breathtaking! The bridge is forbidden for pedestrians for safety reasons. |
