This fortress was build on the West Bank of the harbor. In the Second World War a large metal chain was extended from this fortress to the one on the opposite bank to protect the refinery - which produced fuel for the allied forces - against submarine attacks. The fortress stood almost empty for decades until a shopping mall was build upon its walls. Connected to the cruise terminal and the Renaissance Hotel, it is now one of the island's prime shopping locations.
